Shaped Canvas
I began building, stretching and painting my shaped canvases in 1975, living between my loft studio in New York City and my job in Columbus, Ohio, as a new Professor of Art and Black Studies at The Ohio State University. These three 8 foot works from 1976 and 1977 were part of my first one woman show in New York at the Studio Museum in Harlem, 1977.
